The Oconto County Planning, Zoning and Solid Waste Department has the mission of protecting and promoting the public health, safety and general welfare of Oconto County. It is further our mission to protect agriculture, residential, business and manufacturing uses from harmful or detrimental encroachment by incompatible uses. We ensure that future growth occurs in an orderly fashion so that natural resources are conserved and property values are maintained.
The Oconto County Planning, Zoning and Solid Waste Department administers various ordinances controlling land use and regulation. These ordinances include the areas of General Zoning, Floodplain, Shoreland Protection, Sanitary, Land Division, Physical Address and Recycling. The Planning, Zoning and Solid Waste Department issues permits, makes necessary inspections, and enforces all applicable ordinances. The Planning, Zoning and Solid Waste Department also oversees the county-wide recycling program, including the collection and processing of recyclables and providing information and education to all interested parties.
