Mission Statement

The purpose of the Oconto County Clerk's Office is to provide service to the public including, but not limited to, conducting all Federal, State, and County elections in coordination with the municipalities and school districts to ensure that the State Statutes governing elections are carried through; issuing and distribution of various licenses; assure completion of necessary clerical functions for the County Board of Supervisors.

The County Clerk's office consists of several areas of responsibility. Included in those responsibilities are coordination of all Federal, State, and County elections, publication of notices associated with the election, preparing canvass reports after election results have been certified by the Board of Canvassers, and filing the canvass report with the Wisconsin Election Commission. The County Clerk is also responsible for marriage applications and the preparation of marriage documents An additional responsibility is the sale of plat books. Dog licenses are received from the State by the Clerk's office and distributed to the municipal treasurers, along with forms for the same.

The County Clerk also serves the County Board of Supervisors by taking minutes, insuring payment of County obligations, assuring compliance with Open Meeting Laws, and maintaining files of records for the County Board and the citizens of the county. Another important aspect of the County Clerk position is to field complaints and concerns from constituents regarding various County programs and Ordinances. Other ancillary services may be provided by the County Clerk as required by law.
